The Pacific Gull is a very large and robust seabird native to the coasts of southern Australia, including beaches, islands, and estuaries. With its hefty build and powerful heavy bill, it is instantly recognizable. Adults have striking black wings and a white body, paired with a yellow bill featuring a bright red tip. Their legs are also yellow.
These gulls are opportunistic feeders, dining on fish, mollusks, crabs, and even scavenging from shorelines.
During the breeding season, they nest on coastal islands, constructing shallow scrapes lined with vegetation or feathers. Both parents care for their young, which are speckled brown for camouflage. Their call is a loud, laughing cry that echoes along the coastlines they inhabit.
